On Wednesday, January 7th at 6 p.m., cyclists from around New Mexico will gather at O�Niell�s Pub (corner of Washington and Central) in Albuquerque to present a proposed platform of legislative actions to improve road safety for everyone. Please join me for this important meeting as we prepare for the next legislative session.
I know that you understand the benefits of using bicycles as transportation. Among them:

Reduced carbon emissions for improved environment;
More law abiding, attentive drives and slower, quieter roads;
Increased contribution to local economies (cyclists are more likely to shop near home);
Increased tourism; and
Active improvement of the health status of New Mexicans.
What you may not know is that despite the great number of New Mexicans who must use a bicycle as transportation to work, to school, to places of personal business, New Mexico is not bicycle friendly. In fact, the League of American Bicyclists ranks New Mexico as an embarrassing 45th for the 50 states in the U.S.

Simple legislation that reinforces the legal rights of cyclists to use the roadways can begin to make cycling and cyclists safer, can improve road safety for everyone. Oregon recently passed a law that penalizes careless drivers for serious injury or death of a vulnerable user of public ways. South Carolina enacted comprehensive �bicycle friendly� legislation last year, including language that makes taunting or threatening cyclists illegal.

Anyone interested in a ski week in Colorado? (Breckenridge, CO)

I'm in Albuquerque and am planning a ski trip to Colorado. There is a large group of us renting a 5200 square foot house in Blue River, just outside of Breckenridge to ski at the surrounding ski resorts. The place is about 15-20 minutes south of Breckenridge. We spend most of our time in Vail because it�s such a large resort, but there are 6 resorts all within an hour drive of the place we are staying, so you can take your pick � Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Vail, Beaver Creek. I love them all!

The dates: January 24-31
(sat-sat) in Breckenridge/Blue River. We ask that each person coming try to cook one meal for everyone (purchase the ingredients, bring up whatever you need for it) and other people will do the same. This saves everyone on cost and allows for enjoying being catered to most evenings. It�s one meal out of 28 � the rest are covered for you. We make big breakfasts and dinners (usually people bring a snack for lunch on the mountain) and we eat appetizers and wine/beer when people get off the mountain. We have a great time every year! We have 2 people that don't even ski that are coming because they had so much fun last year! The age ranges from about 22 years of age to 34, although last year we had a much older woman join us and we still had a blast! We are trying to keep the cost around $40/person/night. If we can get 20 people, it would be closer to $38/person/night. Right now we have 17 committed. The place is 8 bedroom, 8 bath, but can sleep up to 26 with sofa sleepers for single people. :) We would likely place you in a room that had 4-5 single beds, so as long as you don't mind sharing a room, you would have your own bed. $38/night is pretty much cheaper than any motel up there and for the most part, that covers most of your food and meals! Lift tickets and gas is all you have to worry about after that. There really is a ton of parking at the house, but 4 wheel drive is recommended by the rental company. It has a pool table, foos ball table and 2 hot tubs, 2 kitchens and plenty of living space for entertainment.

Our ski trip website also has the menu sign up sheet so you can see what everyone is cooking for you! I�m also going to work on other activities to do while you are up there for those people that would rather not ski. There are tons of things to do.

If you decide to go, let me know ASAP - spots are filling up fast and we need to hear from you to secure your reservation. It's really a great group and we have a ton of fun. Hey, there, I'm putting together a community garden at my house.

What I'm looking for: Community-minded individuals (drug-free -- should I even have to say this?) who are feeling self-empowered and want to share this with others. Also, I'm looking for kids who want to learn (or whose parents want them to learn) about gardening, community, recycling/reusing practices, and permaculture.

The goal: Self-Empowerment & Service -- To build a garden (ground-up) with our hands and eat its fruits, while teaching each other our own unique skills (e.g.-- ideally, people who know about irrigation will take charge of that and show others how it's done.) I really want to work with kids, hopefully showing them some of what I've learned, while both inspiring them to take leadership and giving them a safe space to play outside with plants.

Committment: It's a year-long process, from now until harvest. Folks are needed to help plan the garden, till the soil and plant/maintain the garden on a daily basis. At first, the committment is more theoretical (the planning phase) but during spring, summer and fall it's going to be important to make sure folks are still coming around. Also, while I am looking for committment, I fully expect our volunteer staff to rotate and cycle through people as things progress. Don't let the fear of committment stop you from participating! Just show up and get your hands dirty!

Location: My house in Old Town, plus a small plot of land in the back yard that I share with neighbors who are extra-neat people. This is a little complex of folks who are just regular people with big ideas.

What I have to offer: The space for a grass-roots sustainability project to grow, self-empowerment and recycling training/education, inspiration, motivation, leadership.

What you get: Food!!! Friendship, training, the knowledge that you're helping with a global conservation effort by growing your own food.

Why: Because I want my community to feel tightly-knit, friendly and productive. Also, I'm sick of seeing good people (including myself) doing nothing with their talents, for one reason or another. I figure that if I provide a space, folks will gravitate toward educating each other (informal/formal seminars on plant stuff? Eco-friendly practices?) and having fun at the same time!

Looking for a Horse Back Riding/ Training Buddy (East Mountains)

Hello, I am looking for a buddy to ride, train and practice polocrosse with. I want to start playing polocrosse this summer(I have never played before)and need to get myself and horses in shape. I want to start after the New Year, on the weekends (weather permitting) and for now it will have to be at my house as I do not have a horse trailer. I have 2 horses, 15 acres and miles of gravel rds to ride down. Bring your horse or ride one of mine. Prefer you to have a little riding experience, if you are going to ride my horses as they are NOT bomb proof and need a confident rider. But I am willing to accomodate if someone wants to learn to ride.
So, if you have been looking for someone to ride with, "talk" horses with, maybe try a new sport (polocrosse) AND have fun while doing it, then give me an email. I am also considering building an obstacle course and/or setting up barrels and poles.
