My recommendation is that You keep sending the link for the petetion to everyone you know and encourage everyone else to do the same. Wall Street Journal also reported on this subject today saying that over 25,000 jobs would be lost due to this law. Also according to the Wall Stree Journal, Congress is receiving soooo much correspondence over this issue that they are going to call an emergency session! Here�s the release from NARTS. Apparently this is good news, but not a LEGAL ruling. We still need to get the law changed! So, I�m going to take a break for a day or two, and jump back onto this issue on Monday. I also have some additional goals:

1. Help prevent National Bankruptcy Day for our home based mommy businesses.

2. Try to get some restrictions on the recall issue. I�ve already written up some suggestions for new wording. Maybe I�ll send that off to Hatch and Bennett and Matheson tonight. I�m still pretty worked up!

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission just released a Press Release Please read it VERY CAREFULLY! This is NOT a ruling, exemption or exception to the CPSIA... it is a Press Release. It is a step in the right direction towards communication, but I believe it is a double-edged sword. I do not want to discourage you but this is far from the solution we are seeking to assure you are able to operate your businesses with peace of mind.

I know for a fact this release was issued because you followed though on our requests to contact your Congressional representatives and because our media blitz has brought a great deal of attention to how this issue affects our industry and consumers.

Some of the information does not even pertain to the new Act, especially the paragraph regarding recalls as we have ALWAYS, ALWAYS taken recalled products off our shelves.

Stay tuned... we are still fighting. I spent the majority of the day on the phone with Congressional aides who are contacting us continually trying to resolve this issue. We are continuing our fight to get a LEGAL ruling to exempt children's apparel, footwear and other products that are inherently lead-free. CPSC is still working on guidelines. I believe we need to fight for more definitive rulings that will guarantee you are operating without the risk of violations.

Continue to support our efforts and participate in the Campaign to Congress found on the CPSIA Resources page. Public sympathy is now on our side and we encourage you to ask your customers to contact their Congressional leaders.

I have 2 babies and I can't always afford to buy new clothes for my kids and I love and Protect them very much and to hear what this new law means is beyond stupid! It feels like our freedom is being taken away one thing at a time!

Just because some of us moms buy from 2nd hand store's like Other Mother, My Ceder Chest, GoodWill, Saver's ect... doesn't mean we are parent's who don't care about what our kids wear or play with it's called either we can't afford to buy new stuff all the freaking time at those dam prices! I know some mom's who have 3,4,& 5 kids and they just can't afford to buy everyone new stuff. I care very much....but come on if anyone should be shut down should be the companies making these clothes!

This is ridiculous! I have never heard of anyone having a problem or child dying from a parent buying something at a 2nd hand store....yet I have heard about those situation happening at the big name store's.

And to hear that if anyone break's that rule buy selling reused item's you will either be fined or up to 5yr's in jail come on that's really taking away our freedom. That's how jail's become over populated. Criminals are the one's who should be behind bar's not parent's trying to sell there no longer needed item's.

What's going to happen if we try and sell at garage sale's, flea market's, craigslist, ebay, ect...........?

I am a stay at home LDS mom of 2 kids, a 3 and 1 year old. I am looking for some other moms who would be interested in doing a LDS Joyschool, preschool co-op, or playgroup of some sort maybe once or twice a week. I like the idea of doing this at home rather than paying for a preschool experience because. There is no one in my own ward interested (most of them pay for preschool) We just moved here from California so I don't really know anyone around town yet. I am amazed that anyone who enjoys living in America would support a law that takes the choices of parents out of our hands. Do I want my children safe? Absolutely! This is why I buy wooden toys, handmade items, use cloth diapers and eat organic foods. However, I would never ask the government to ban non organic food, non organic clothing, or disposable diapers. To do so would be to admit that democracy doesn't work and that the government is who we should trust with decisions affecting our children. I am appalled that there isn't a bigger outrage about this. Not only is the whole thing ill concieved and poorly written, the bigger issue is who has the right to tell consumers what to buy and whom to buy from? It's MY job as a parent to ensure my child's safety. It is not the government's job to save me from myself.

With more and more restrictions being placed on American citizens, we are sending a message to the whole of the world that freedom really isn't a viable choice. For the government to ignore what the majority of it's citizens want is called communism and we are really going down a slippery slope if this law passes...

I think this new law is insane! I agree with keeping children safe, I would not want my children playing with or wearing unsafe things, which is why I get all the recalls emailed to me, I register EVERYTHING I buy that comes with a registration card, and I check to see if any used item I am buying has been recalled. The consumer needs to be responsible with their purchases! I am pregnant with my second child and can not afford to buy new clothes and all new gear so I rely on resale stores. I was very disappointed because I can not afford to buy baby stuff (including used) until I get my taxes next month or in March and by then I will not be able to because of the law taking effect in February. This is just another way for the government to make more money off the consumer by making them purchase new items and not letting them make money off their old items.

ok just to reply to the lady that agrees with what congress is doing ok so i do care and love my children very much but the fact that congress is trying to basically make us throw everything away once are children have grown out if it is and outrage due to the fact that sooo many children don't like this or that also they grow out of everything so fast so i think that to stop selling resale items makes no sense i understand and agree with the lead issue but name brands like graco and evenflo and all clothes sold at walmart and stores like that wouldn't be an problem i think most of the focus should be on toys if anything but all childrens stuff is going to far it will clog our landfills and hurt alot of people so that was just my opinion :)

Hmmmm....

There are some flaws in your thinking. Not everything sold second hand is going to kill your child. I am all for keeping my children safe--but they are my children to protect--not a government entity.

You could buy a new jacket at Target, for instance, and the zipper pull may come off and your child swallows it, chokes and dies. I am more concerned with the use of button batteries in childrens toys (a far more fatal item than a used pair of jeans). There are documented cases of button batteries exploding in childrens stomachs...where are the laws against those?

This law is not worth closing 1000's of small businesses and dumping trillions of tons of clothes/toys in landfills further polluting our groundwater supplies.

The law also adds a huge sum of money to the CPSA budget...which makes me question the valildity of the law. The entire act had to be passed (with all its fatal flaws) just so the agency could get more money.

This law should be repealed, rewritten and voted on again. End of story.

Dr. Brown Bottles are very effective for babies with gas. My son never cried once from gas. I know they work good because my other son did not use them and he cried at every feeding and sometimes I had to burp him for 30 min or more. I only had to burp my youngest for a few min. and it was not very much. I tried a regular bottle on him once and within a few sips he started screaming from the gas. If you are experiencing this I would recommend these wonderful bottles. I paid almost 100 for all of these and I am the only owner. If noone buys these I will be putting them on Ebay so HURRY! and have a good day.

I read the article and, afterward, found myself fully supporting their reasoning. In addition, not every persons "right", as you stated, will be revoked. Should a used goods retailer be willing to pay for the testing of harmful substances in their child related items, then, they may be permitted to sell those found passable by congressional law.

Now here is the question I pose to you; What is most important to you... your childs safety and over all well being... or a reduced price on an item that has no known history to you, and can be harmful if not fatal to your child?

Not all people make the decission that congress feels is in the best for America's children and due to their poor decission choices other children have suffered, some have died. So that is why, it is now becomming a law. I, with good consience, full heartedly pray it passes. Look with in your selves and you to may find yourself aggreeing... if only for the safety of your (America's) children.
