I am looking for a third roomy to share a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2000+sq ft house. The house is in the Kathryn and San Pedro area, approximately 3 miles directly up the street (east) from TVI/CNM and UNM campuses and about a mile to Kirtland Base. Main campus UNM is ~7 min by car and ~20 min by bicycle. The bus line on San Mateo is only a 7-10 minute walk away (~9 blocks). The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and 1 female medical student and 1 professional adult male currently reside in the house.

The room is available for occupancy January 1 (maybe a little bit before then), and is approximately 12’x14'. This room shares a bathroom with the female roommate currently residing in the house. The house has a carport (no garage) and is fully furnished, except for the available room, which can be furnished with the basics if needed, at no additional cost. The kitchen is fully stocked with various appliances that everyone is welcome to use. The unlandscaped backyard and patio has a weight machine, fire pit, lawn chairs, table, and BBQ grill. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer, and a storage shed with some available space on premises. On site amenities include a security system, wireless high speed internet, TIVO, cable with HBO, a piano, an extensive DVD collection, and a den with a television, sewing machine, a pellet stove, and random books and craft stuff. We also have several different gaming systems that everyone is welcome to play.

There are some pets living on premises, including 2 dogs, a couple cats, and some birds (a macaw, some chickens, and 2 lovebirds). The dogs both get along very well with cats and other dogs. The chickens provide fresh eggs every day. If you have pet allergies, please do not consider this room as a viable option. Your own pets are welcome as long as you are going to take care of them and they are non-destructive.

Rent is $375/mo plus 1/3 all utilities. 1/3 of the utilities (gas, electric, water, and DSL only. I take care of everything else ie Tivo, cable, HBO...) generally runs ~$80 to $130/mo depending on the month and the season, and how conscious everyone is about conserving energy (ie turning the lights off when sleeping, lights and appliances off when not in the room, not leaving the stove on, only turning the air conditioner on when there are people home and it is hot, and wearing a sweater in the winter as opposed to turning the heat up to 80 etc). We would share in cleaning responsibilities of the common areas, but if that is unpalatable, we can maybe look into a maid service that we can split the cost of.

A good roommate would be one that doesn't party at home every night, but doesn't mind the occasional drink or social gathering. It's also very important for the roommate to like dogs and cats, and to understand that little fairies don't come around and cleanup after you. I am not your mother or a hall-monitor; you need to be responsible for yourself, and capable of taking care of yourself. Someone very responsible, respectful, reliable, friendly, trustworthy, quiet, and easy-going, and who is clean would fit the house well and a sense of humor would be icing on the cake. Male or female and any sexual orientation is welcome. Basically, I would really like someone who is a good person, who will not abuse my pets, and who will pay their rent and utilities on-time, whether they meet the above list of adjectives or not.

A month to month rental agreement must be signed prior to occupancy. No drugs and no smoking inside the house- the back porch has ashtrays and is set up for your comfort while you smoke. I would prefer a female roommate simply because I have found that most male roommates I have had in the past are not as neat or clean. This is not to say that there aren’t ladies out there who are worse. And with the custody of my son in limbo I would feel more comfortable with a female roommate.
