Hello! Looking for anyone who has a credible opinion on the health of FSNM - First State Bancorp (First Community). New Mexico appears to be no less healthy than the rest of the country and FSNM appears to have suffered like the rest of the contry's banks. It's stock is selling at less than 1/7 of it's book value. Do you think it will survive as a spearate bank? I am not looking for "insider information" but an opinion by a local knowledgeable person is what I am looking for, especially someone who has a loan with them and may know general knowledge of their health and confidence. Management has not done a good job in communciating with its shareholders.

Thanking you in advance, Brian A.

A jury awarded a former APD cop $662K for speaking out against Bernalillo County sheriff deputies who he witnessed were mistreating a citizen, Al Unser, during a road block. It seems that Bernalillo County Sheriff, Darren White and APD Ray Schultz colluded in an effort to keep justice from occurring. It's all about the "blue wall of silence", cops are not to be witnesses against each other. Now it will cost the city taxpayers almost $900,000 (662K+200K). The lawyer will get about $200K for defending the cop. Today's Albuquerque Journal has additional details.

Thank you Mayor RJ Berry for bringing Darren White to join the team with APD Chief Ray Schulz. I can see the future is bright, unless your a taxpaying citizen. I voted for you Mayor Berry, but I won't make that mistake again.

Hi all, have a problem maybe someone who has dealt with it themselves can help with. Her it is in a nutshell: Hubby works forever, hard and long hours. Has a personal obligation which requires him to leave area for one week, of course employer knew all about it. Comes back to go to work, employer blows him off for weeks. ( financially going int he toilet at this point. Because of no employer repsonse, he files for unemployment,. Employer immediately calls and tells him to get back to work. he does. Before, he is a supervisor, now he is scheduled to dig ditches ( seriously is), take sledge hammer to concrete, load and dump debris using his vehicle, ect. Everyday a nightmare of jobs that a young guy should be doing, not a master carpenter hired as a supervisor. His work load is HARD and hurting him physically. he says nothing as he needs the paycheck. His keys are taken to allow access to tools and such, he is talked to abusively everyday, such as "You fucking don't like the work? Then quit".. What the fuck is your problem? and on and on. He finally cannot take it anymore and leaves the company ( which they wanted him to do all along) he was the highest hourly rate they had, so thusly wanted to get rid of him..He goes to unemployment, and they cannot do anything as he left the job. The old boss laughs as he is known for this activity. So here he sits, a veteran, unemployed, 25 years as a master carpenter, and the employer gets away with murder essentially. So here is a man who deserves his unemployment yet the employer gets away with having him denied. This is an unfair system at best but surely favors these employers not the worker. You ARE NOT entitled to unemployment no matter what anyone says. You can have the worst working conditions, be treated and talked to horribly, yet at the end of the day when you cannot take it anymore, the employer makes sure you are going under financially. Anyone out there have suggestions? Going to unemployment main office was a dead end street.

Joey Gallegos Homicide Case (NE Albuquerque, New Mexico)

A story from KOAT.com-

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The death of Joey Gallegos came as such a shock to people who live at an Albuquerque apartment complex.

Gallegos' neighbor who lives at the complex near Comanche and Interstate 25 was one of the last people to see him alive.

Mike Lesicka said he answered the knock at about 2 a.m. Saturday and found friend and neighbor Gallegos covered in blood.

"Apparently from what I could tell [it was] stab wounds," said Lesicka.

He called 911 and waited with Gallegos, but the 20-year-old did not make it.

"It was shocking to find out it was him," said Geraldine Pearman.

Pearman manages the apartment complex and has known Gallegos for more than three years.

"He was such a nice kid, how someone could hurt him like that," said Pearman. "I wish we could find out who did it."

Neighbors struggling with that expressed their sorrow. Candles, kids' drawings, and notes tell passersby that a peaceful person lived at Gallegos' apartment.

Why he was the target and who was behind it are questions police are working to answer.

It's the kind of crime that can spark fear, but Pearman said that's not the case with neighbors at the complex.

"They are not scared. They are saddened," Pearman said. "They lost a good friend and a good neighbor."

Gallegos last words to his neighbor he said were actually a request that he get his dog to make sure it would not run off, but he did not say anything about who attacked him or why.

At last check, police said detectives did not have any suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call 242-COPS.

We are getting ripped off and our Governor, Mayor, And everybody else at city hall is not doing anything about it. HOW do you explain 300.00 a month on property tax, that's almost half of the amount I financed, 3,597.000 a year for a 142,000 house. How do they expect people to live and this economy to get better when we are getting F.........! IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO, OR JUST KEEP TAKIN IT IN THE SHORTS YEAR AFTER YEAR....

Mon, Nov 16, 2009, 9:30 a.m. MST -- Phil is charged with four counts -- disorderly conduct, concealing his identity, refusing to obey an officer, and criminal trespass. He is being arraigned this morning.

It is unclear whether police were called because of Phil's refusal to show ID to TSA, or because Phil took photos at the TSA checkpoint. It appears to be the latter -- the photo taking. Interestingly, Phil contacted the Albuquerque airport (scroll down a bit and look for the pmocek posts) many months ago about this very same issue, and was told by airport officials that it is legal to take photographs at the TSA checkpoint.

After much scrambling, we found an attorney who (hopefully) is representing Phil at his arraignment. His bond was initially set at $2,275. The bonding window doesn't take phone payments, so we need someone local to bail him out (either the lawyer, or a bail bondsman). We've set up a paypal account for Phil's Legal Defense Fund.

Mon, Nov 16, 2009, 12:20 p.m. MST -- The lawyer we got hold of didn't get to his arraignment in time. It appears Phil was arraigned and put back in the Metropolitan Detention Center, with no modifications to his bond. We've contacted a bonding company and are working to get them 10% bond payment information and license copies via frustrating fax technology. The bond will cost $275, and of that, $228 is non-refundable.

We've continued talking with a few civil rights attorneys in Albuquerque, in hopes of finding someone willing to 1) deal with the litany of criminal charges they threw at Phil for his amateur photography, and 2) seek redress after that. Currently, Phil is still incarcerated.

Mon, Nov 16, 2009, 4:20 p.m. MST -- We think we've finally posted Phil's bond. According to most sources, he should be out of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Detention Center in 4-8 hours. We are working to secure him legal representation in Albuquerque. Cost estimates are about $2,000-4,000 for a retainer. Hoping he has heard somehow that people have been working to get him out. Incommunicado for 28 hours and counting.

Mon, Nov 16, 2009, 6:45 p.m. MST -- Phil is now listed as bonded meaning he's free to go. The jail said they will let him out in an unknown amount of time -- approximately 4-6 hours or so.

ALBUQERQUE, N.M. NOVEMBER 15, 2009 — A Washington State medical marijuana activist was arrested at the Albuquerque airport today after refusing to show ID to TSA screeners. Activist Phil Mocek is one of many Americans who believe Americans have a right to travel freely between the states without showing their papers to the federal government.

Mocek was tabling at the 2009 International Drug Policy Reform Conference for a Seattle-based activist group called the Cannabis Defense Coalition. The event was attended by over one thousand people, including New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, and former Governor Gary Johnson.

At the Albuquerque airport for his flight back to Seattle, Mocek politely refused to show his ID to a TSA screener, who called in a supervisor. Mocek started recording with his digital camera, which caused the TSA supervisor to become extremely agitated. The police were called in, with six officers arriving on the scene. Mocek was immediately arrested. Another Seattle activist, Jesse Gallagos, was traveling with Mocek, and was driven in a police cruiser to the edge of the Albuquerque airport, dropped off, and told he was banned from flying for 24 hours.

Like many Americans, Mocek has flown for years without showing ID to federal officials. He made headlines last year for questioning security measures at Kansas City Airport in regards to their ID requirements. See:

At this point, it remains unclear what Mocek was arrested for. Unofficial police statements say is being booked for "disturbing the peace" by taking photographs at a TSA checkpoint. As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Mocek has been in police custody for four hours, and is still being "processed" by airport police.

The Cannabis Defense Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit member cooperative focused on marijuana activism in Washington State. More information is available at www.cdc.coop.

The Original Author wrote:

"GLBT couples should be entitled to the same rights as a married couple, but what is the problem with calling it something else? A marriage is defined as a state between a man and woman, and has been for thousands of years. Call it a gayrriage, a homo-union, or whatever. I don't care come up with something. Think of it as a chance to express your uniqueness."

My Response:
Thank you for sentence one in your post. I have no problem calling a legalized (govt) union of two persons a domestic partnership. Which could be used for many people, not just the GLBT community. Holy Matrimony is defined as a union of a man and a woman in certain churches, and I believe should stay that way. If GLBT or open and affirming churches choose to provide marriage services for any members than so be it. But legally we should all have access domestic partnerships. Domestic Parnterships would solve many people faced by hetrosexual couples......i.e Second time partners and estate planning. No more pre-nups! All I, and speaking for millions in my community want are equal laws to protect assets, taxation issues, wills, healthcare directives, employement discrimination, etc.....

Thanks for answering one of my questions. So , I am clear you find it bothersome for same sex unions be called "marriages"? I can understand that. Many couples work very hard at making a marriage work. It is not easy for certain. The GLBT community is not out to take anything away from anyone else. I love my partner more than anything or anyone in the world. I just want to provide for him in my death as well as my life. We need more folks like yourself to express fear or things the are bothersome so we can all come to logical resolve. Thanks Again!

Blake's and Gay Bashers (ABQ)

I AM THE ORIGNINAL AUTHOR OF THE ARGUMENT. TO THIS DAY NO ONE AS ANSWERED MY SIMPLE QUESTIONS. JUST INSULTS AND IGORNANCE.

JUST FOR THE RECORD HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:
"Now for the person with a family of nine. That's good you made a choice to have a family. There is alot of work and love to have in a large family. I am sure I pay plenty of property taxes to help school the children. Even tho I will never be sending a child to public school, I have always helped paid for others. The standard federal tax exemptions for your family must be great. Now why would it bother you for me and my lifetime partner like you and yours, have the right to atleast get a deduction for 2 wage earners? Do you think that we can change one of your children into being gay or lesbian? Would you love them any less if they were? Well unless you are the Osmond family, chances are one or of your offspring is homosexual. Why would it bother you for me to decide my who my pension plan goes to? Why would it bother you for me to decide who my estate goes to? Without the worries of homophobe family members that cast me away for being me? I am just wondering why these things that hetrosexual couples "automatically" get bothers you? This is not an argument of my choice or my creation. This is a quest to really find out why some hetrosexuals deny the same things to others that they get? In a country that is build on equality, I ponder why this is so bothersome. For the record, I do not support legalized same sex marriage ( yes I am gay) nor do I support legalized opposite sex marriage. Marriage is a religous institution and should reamain as such. Our government needs to recognize only rhe legal aspects of the individual. I mean wouldn't you be pissed off of someone in your family just drops in after your death and rob your lifetime partner of the estate you built together? "

THESE WERE THE QUESTIONS, BECAUSE I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY ANYONE WOULD OPPOSE THEM AS EQUAL FOR EVERYONE?"

This is what I got back...first reply ignoring all of the questions!
"Thanks for providing a list of companies and organizations that supported Prop 8. I now have updated my list of “favorite companies and organizations”. I think it only fair of you to provide the list of those that apposed Prop 8, so we can perhaps boycott them.
And just to add. This is old news. You folks took your best shot at imposing your minority views on the majority and lost. Now take your lumps and get on with life, or to be more specific..............G E T A LIFE"

For the record sir/mam "I have a life and I don't believe that minority views were cast on anyone." Why are you so bitter and hateful? What did I do to you? I don't spit on your questions because you are hetrosexual!

SO THEN I REPLIED TO GET A LIFE PERSON WITH THIS SCENARIO
Just for the record to those of you who hate us. Suppose all of the GLBT community moves to the states which recognizes the needs for gay protection and allow the same civil unions you have. Well let me tell you, I hate the cold but it looks more and more better to move there! Then you can eat all of the fucking Blakes burgers you want. Well perhaps not, cause there are gonna be move mighty poor states when we pull our assets out and sell our property for below market. Your not gonna have shit, cause there won't be us to tax for fucking welfare money either. When 1/3 of your fabulous people leave your local economy, let's see who has the last laugh. See instead of procreating and having to feed cloth and support children, we saved our money. And wow when we move there will also be the lack of support for them good ol husbands that frequent us for what they are not getting at home. Doctors, Dentist. Lawyers, Teachers, Professors, Managers, Business Owners, Hairstylist, Mechanics, Clerks .....all just gone! Think about it. SO spread your hate and we leave. Just like the Native Americans........We will build casinos and take all of your money.... losers!
OK I ADMIT THE LANGUAGE AND PUNS A BIT STRONG....... JUST DON'T LIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE SMART OFF WITH GET A LIFE!

THEN THIS LOVELY COMMENT COMES ALONG! STILL NO ONE EVEN ATTEMPTED TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS I ASKED.
"Please tell me and the other Blake's supporters where to contribute to your relocation fund."

WELL THEN, YES I AM A BIT ANGERED IN MY REPSONSE......OKAY MORE THAN A BIT...CAUSE NO ONE EVEN CARE TO ATTEMPT A LOGICAL ANSWER
"So you really think you have money to donate to relocate the GLBT community. Oh Honey, we have all the money. You have your cheating ass husbands, many of which I know! You have your money hungry PMS wifes and stupid kids that play soccer talk on cell phones and cant even tie their shoes!!! 1/3 of the American population is from the GLBT community. All shapes colors sizes ethnicities from all professions. Pretty fucking soon MORONS like you will have to learn more than a sharp queer cut remark on here! Think about it. Its a Queer Nation. We demand equality. Nothing more nothing less. Stand in our way, loose your ass! The only reason you hate us is because you are afraid of your own CHOSEN boring sexuality."

AND THIS FOLLOWS: SUCH A TYPICAL RESPONSE BY SOMEONE WHO HAS LOST ALL TRACK OF THE ARGUMENT.
"Damn, So sorry if I offended you. I thought you were serious about relocating to the North East. However, since you prefer to act and talk like a nasty queer, I will tell you this. The only thing you are 1/3 of is the streetwalkers on Central.
Equality, no damn way. Your kind have tried it in many states but you are too stupid to understand that when you loose, you loose. What you did understand is that the normal people of this country are revolted by you. So now you are DEMANDING, Kiss off queer. I proudly stand in your way and look forward to supporting organizations against you. And I will cast my vote to close the damn closet door you crawled out of."

SO MY REPSONSE IS THIS SIR/MADAM: Call me all of the nasty queer stuff you want to call me. You are also calling someone near you , in your family or friendship circle the same thing. I never crawled out of a closet and I have never walked the streets of Central Ave. Yes we have lost states in this hate war. I feel sorry for people like you which are incapable debatting an obstacle that challenges all of us to find what works for the good of thw whole. SO NOW YOU LISTEN TO ME YOU QUEER BASHING ASSHOLE. THANKS TO A WHOLE ALOT OF PEOPLE WE HAVE A LIBERAL HOUSE, SENATE AND PRESIDENT. WE ARE NOT GOING FOR THIS STATE BULLSHIT ANY LONGER. WE WILL GO THE DISTANCE UNTIL THE FED PROHIBITS STATES FOR DENYING MARRIAGE FOR ANY HUMAN BEING TO ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING. YOUR FUCKING HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL WAS JUST A DETERENT! BETTER WATCH HOWS TOES YOU WALK ON, YOU MAY HAVE TO KISS THEIR SAME SEX ASS!

AND FINALLY FOR THE SWEET, KIND GOD LOVING GENTLEMEN WHO WROTE THE FOLLOWING. THANK YOU FOR THE ENCOURAGE OF HOPE AND PEACE...MAY GOD ALWAYS KEEP YOU SAFE. YOU WORDS ARE HEARTFELT AND NEEDED IN THIS COUNTRY!
It is funny how people just get on their soap box about marriage and how it should only be between a man and woman quoting the bible and telling everyone what a good Christian they are but they forget another important part.

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Just because you do not agree with another persons life style and choices does not mean you have the right to belittle them, before you start casting stones do a self assessment. Maybe we should spend more time bettering ourselves and spend less time condemning others. Only those who really stand for nothing and do not understand the issues get worked up quickly when others state their opinions that are contrary to theirs.

Just my opinion, which is worth about as much as yours.

And to those who have been sending me those really nasty emails, No I am not gay, I am a family man I just believe the hate is worthless and I would rather help my fellow man then hurt them. And yes I do know something about Veterans, I am a Veteran, honorably discharged Veteran, and no I was not a cook or Supply I am a former Combat Engineer.

Engineers Lead the Way

Hope you all have a great day and a special thanks to all our Veterans who have sacrificed so much to allow us to have conversations or debates like these on an open forum not controlled by the government.
All shapes colors sizes ethnicities from all professions. Pretty fucking soon MORONS like you will have to learn more than a sharp queer cut remark on here! Think about it. Its a Queer Nation. We demand equality. Nothing more nothing less. Stand in our way, loose your ass! The only reason you hate us is because you are afraid of your own CHOSEN boring sexuality.

Just like the Native Americans........We will build casinos and take all of your money.... losers!

Thank you for pointing out the ONLY fairness in govt is to recognize all Marriages or reject them all. It is purely a matter of Chruch and State along with taxation issues. I hate the prop 8 gay spreaders and as well the person wirh a faimly of nine boasting it as well. I wish like hell the petty little people spreading hate on CL about Blake's one way or another would just STOP. We have hungry children, proverty, unemployment as all sorts of things that need your wasted energy.

Blake's is privately held. What they do or do not do with their money is truly their private business. Just like what you and I do with our money.

Now for the person with a family of nine.

Thank you so much poster for informing me that Blakes Lotaburger supported such a foolish cause. Im not gay myself, but I find the denial of gay peoples right to be married in their own religious traditions etc. if they so choose to be an infringement upon the religious freedom of american citizens in general. I also feel that people that make long term commitments to each other should be afforded the right to set up civil unions and recieve benefits from their spouse or partner. "Marriage" is a religious institution. IF your church does NOT want to recognize a marriage in your tradition...that is your business...However, if the government does not allow a church tha DOES choose to recognize a marriage within their tradition, how can that be defended as anything but unconstitutional? The only constitutional remedy if you dislike the idea of gay marriage is to have the government choose not to recognize ANY marriages. Sorry, there is no other constitutional and intellectually consistant option. If you want to have the right to marry, every one else gets to have it too. So thank you for pointing out that Blakes Supported this foolish cause, otherwise I might have continued to eat their. Its a shame, I like their hamburgers, but I cant support that kind of foolishness.
