The Isan is also one of the regions of Thailand where traditions are preserved and respected; the Isan culture is influenced by Laos and Lao culture. This influence is represented in their special cooking, handicrafts, music and dance and on the typical Muay Thai Boxing. The Bo Pan Khan site dates back to the bronze era, when it was a main economic centre of the region due to the rock salt that could be found in the soil. Nowadays, the site is virtually abandoned despite efforts of the Thai government in the 90's to attract local tourists. Bo Pan Khan is surrounded by water, which is now filled with riverweed.

Environmental conservation is the main work of the project. The projects are:
- The volunteers will work at Bo Pan Khan to help cutting the riverweed, then take a riverweed to make fertilizer, cleaning around the area and planting trees or flowers in the garden. This project is running during summer from November to May and for planting trees or flowers would be better to plant during raining reason.
- The volunteers will work at the temple to help making organic farm, such as planting cucumbers, tomatos, long beans, morning glory etc. by using fertilizer, the one that was made from riverweed. Helping to water the plants after planting. This project is running during raining season from June to October.
- The volunteers will work in the village on a recycling bank project. At first the volunteers will help building the recycling bank where they can separate the garbage and may help to repair the incinerator. Then the group will help to campaign about separating the garbage. And will help recycling the garbage such as making a fish from plastic bottle or paper, making a small flower from straw, making apron from milk box. The volunteers may also help making recycle bins.
Age range: 18 and over

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-thailand.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries go to: www.cadip.org or give us a call: 604-628-7400

Do something BIG this holiday. Volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters (Central New Mexico)

What better way to give back this holiday season than by becoming a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters? If money is tight but you'd still like to give back to the community of Albuquerque, consider signing up with Big Brothers Big Sisters and getting matched one-on-one with a child from our wait list.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the U.S. Our mission is to help vulnerable children by pairing them one-on-one with adult mentors. The majority of the children from Big Brothers Big Sisters come from low-income homes or single-parent homes, and they are simply in need of an older friend to talk to and look up to. Our Big Brothers and Sisters are volunteers at least 18 years old that commit to being matched with a Little Brother or Sister to at least one year. We match these volunteers one-on-one with the children waiting, and a match then spends a minimum of 4 hours/month together doing fun things out in the community like going to sports games, playing at local parks, seeing movies, hiking or going out for pizza.

National studies show that this simple friendship has a lasting impact of the child, reducing their likelihood to do drugs, drink underage, drop out of school or become violent. Volunteers from the program also report feeling more rewarded, more invested in their community and building a great new friendship because of their Littles.

Requirements for volunteers:
-Must be at least 18 years old for the community-based program
-Must commit to being matched for at least 1 year
-Spend a minimum of 4 hours/month with their Little Brother or Sister
-Complete application forms, an in person interview, reference checks and background checks (including fingerprinting)

Right now there is a specific need for Big Brothers who live in the South Valley or are willing to drive to the South Valley to pick up a Little. We have approximately 200 boys waiting to be matched with a Big Brother, and many of these boys can wait up to 2 years to get matched!

For more information about volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters or to make a donation locally, visit www.InspireAChildToDream.org or call (505) 837-9223. E-mail Jessica MacLean at jessica.maclean@bbbs.org to sign up, or fill out the easy online application. Become a Big Brother today and inspire a child to dream!

Hi there,
It's been a very intense / awful year for me as well as for many people I'm sure.
The reason I'm posting this is with the hope of replacing something that was stolen from me, my digital slr camera.
My insurance company didn't want to pay (by the way farmers insurance) for it because I was victim of fraud and I was not assaulted and beaten up or shoot and that was really bad for me because I sometimes I use my camera for work. I'm a web developer but once in awhile I get gigs for photography, like photographing houses for sale and such, well, I need to buy a semi pro camera that I can use equipment that I already have (lens, flash, etc) and this equipment cost a lot of money.
I'm looking for small and not so small donations to fund-raise $720 for the camera and then another $1200+ for a lens.
Any donations will be rewarded as noted, of course, after I get the equipment.
+ Donations of $25 - $49 you'll get a portrait of yourself
+ Donations of $50 - $99 you'll receive EITHER a family portrait OR a photo shooting of your house (great if you plan on sell your house)
+ Donations of $100 - $199 you'll receive BOTH a family portrait AND a photo shooting of your house (great if you plan on sell your house)
+ Donations of $200 - $499 you'll get a family portrait AND a photo shooting of your house INCLUDING an additional 360 degrees panoramas / Virtual tours of your house
+ Donations of $500 and UP you'll get a small website for your small business OR a website of your house to be sold with photos included
We can meet in person at a coffee shop or if you rather you can donate using paypal
Note: I can only honor the rewards if you live in the Albuquerque metro area (this includes Rio Rancho, Placitas, Bernalillo, Tijeras).
Thanks!

Hi,

I apologize if this message is off topic - I am trying to give a broad group of people a chance to participate. Please disregard this message if you are not interested.

I'm a psychology graduate student doing a short internet survey (under the supervision of Dr. C.N. DeWall Ph.D.) that lasts about 25 minutes and I would appreciate if you could help me by filling it out. The survey is searching for feedback about a couple of different video games as well as taking some personality measures. Participation is completely voluntary and you can stop at any time. You will be compensated for your time. Also, your participation is anonymous and you will never be asked to provide your name. Please note that you must be over 18 to participate in this survey.

The Christina Kent Early Childhood Center, a non-profit childcare program for low income families, is in need of tuition assistance for families for the holidays. One family has experienced major trauma and is in need of assistance. A donation of $1,900 would allow this child to stay enrolled in our program from January until the child transitions to kindergarten in August. If you or others you know can pool together funds we have a few families that need tuition support.
Thank you for any support you can provide.

If you would like to participate, please click here or go to the following link:

My Mother needs a Kidney (Albuquerque, NM)

Hello everyone!

My mom has Polycystic Kidney Disease. PKD is actually a pretty common disease; 1 in 500 people has it. PKD is more common than Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and sickle cell anemia combined, and it is nowhere near as well heard of. It's passed on genetically, it's not something you can catch. Basically, it turns your kidneys into cyst filled/covered masses. The cysts/scar tissue created stop(s) your kidneys from functioning, and the kidneys usually end up weighing 20+ pounds EACH. PDK almost always ends in renal failure, which means dialysis and (HOPEFULLY) a kidney transplant.

I can't donate a kidney, but am trying to find someone who can donate a kidney to my mom. She is 52, and by last Christmas, her kidneys had grown so large that they were pushing up on her lungs and stomach. They were about 20 lbs...so her doctors took out both of her kidneys.

Now she is 100% dependent on dialysis. Most everyone knows what dialysis is, or at least they've heard of it. What they don't hear of are the complications and how it tears down your body. My mom has been on dialysis for almost 3 years. Her main complication comes from her access point, her fistula...where the dialysis techs stick the needles into her so that dialysis is possible. My mom's fistula gets blood clots in it, for whatever reason. She has had, as of the end of September, 12 angioplasty surgeries (where they stick a tiny balloon in you and inflate it so that they can pull out the blood clots) in the last 2 years. The surgeries are always successful, but this puts major wear and tear on her fistula, and her arm can only withstand so much wear and tear. Dialysis also wears down your heart...think about a machine doing in 4 hours what your body does in 2 days...pulling your blood out, cleaning it, taking off all the fluid you've ingested and putting your blood back in...lots of wear on the heart. The angioplasty surgery she had in September, the heart surgeon had to do because her arm is so fragile, and he had to go into her arm 5 times during one surgery...

So now, my mom is on the transplant list, and I am trying to help her by seeing if anyone is willing to become a living doner for her. Her blood type is O+, and the potential doner would have to start by being the same blood type. I'm not going to lie, it takes a lot of testing, and a total commitment...not to mention giving up a part of your body...and there is recovery time and probably feeling like hell for at least a few days. (Altho now more often than not, it's a laparascopic surgery for the donor.) But still, it's not a walk in the park, and there are always possible complications.

If there is anyone interested in testing to see if you can be a living donor, please message me.

My mom finally agreed to me trying to find her a living doner (today as a matter of fact), so I am going to do my best to find one for her.

If you would like more information on PKD please go to www.pkdcure.org.

If you would like more information on becoming a living donor, please go to www.floodsisters.org.

Thank you all for your time!!
