We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Controller to lead our financial operations with energy and precision. We are a well-established company seeking a Bookkeeper/Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and to support the financial performance of the organization. Our work is primarily federal government grants and contracts. This pivotal role combines hands-on bookkeeping responsibilities with strategic financial oversight, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act). Duties
• Manage full-cycle accounting functions including general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation using the accounting software QuickBooks.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
• Oversee and process monthly payroll, including certified payroll reporting
• Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and maintain adherence to GAAP, IFRS, and SOX standards.
• Handle multi-state payroll tax filings (940, 941) and department of labor reporting
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations; Perform monthly credit card reconciliations
• Support external audits by providing accurate documentation and facilitating audit procedures.
• Track employee PTO (vacation/sick time); Support annual workers’ compensation and insurance audits
• Complete monthly sales tax / gross receipts reporting
Qualifications
• Proven experience in public accounting and governmental accounting environments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance requirements, and regulatory standards pertinent to the sector.
• Expertise in financial analysis, account reconciliation, balance sheet management, and general ledger reconciliation.
• Proficiency with accounting software QuickBooks.
• Solid understanding of technical accounting principles including debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to manage accounts payable/receivable processes efficiently while maintaining accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of GSA governmental compliance standards is highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
