The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-driven professional with strong accounting background in real estate or construction, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to lead and develop teams. This role is essential in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and the effective management of financial processes.
Essential Functions:
• Month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including payroll-related and intercompany transactions
• Investigate, identify, and resolve discrepancies in financial records and transactions
• Process and manage employee-related financial items, including benefits, garnishments, child support, and reimbursements
• Administer benefit-related payments, including health, dental, vision, COBRA, and retirement contributions
• Cost Accounting
• Perform labor allocations, job costing, and intercompany billbacks across divisions
• Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
• Manage and reconcile company expense programs, including fuel cards, petty cash, and vendor accounts
• Coordinate and administer fleet-related financial responsibilities, including insurance and registrations
• Support administrative compliance functions, including business registrations, NTTCs, and license tracking
• Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines
• Collaborate with internal teams and communicate effectively regarding financial matters
• Manage/process multi-entity payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all federal and state regulations
• Prepare, review, and submit payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, ES903A, W-2, and 1095-C
• Oversee full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely processing
• Perform and assist with monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and entities
• Ability to read/comprehend tax returns, understand adjustments
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in accounting and payroll
• Extensive working knowledge of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general ledger functions
• Experience with multi-entity accounting or working across multiple business units
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation functions)
• Experience with accounting and payroll software (experience with Sage 300 or similar systems preferred)
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies independently
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
