This is a unique belt drive bike for commuting. It is bomb proof with no need for grease for the drive train and disc brakes. This originally sold for $1,299, but that was a while ago. I would say this is perfect for a student or commuter.
For those more in the tinker space, this could be a cool electric bike conversion with a powered front wheel, or the drive train alone could be repurposed into a groovy project bike. I have seen these hubs recently sell for $200 on ebay.
Official Description:
Imagine a bike with no chain, no grease, and no grind or jerks when shifting. That’s Novara Gotham. A Gates
belt drive paired with a NuVinci N360TM Continuously Variable Planetary (CVP) transmission powers an elegant,
double-butted chromoly frame. A leather seat, swept-back handlebar and cork grips complement the cockpit.
The result? A silent, effortless glide to the right gear with just a subtle wrist turn. No clacking or temperamental
shifting mechanism interrupts the flow of this roll, possibly creating the quietest, most refined ride on city streets.
