As its name suggests, Dagger's Legend is one of the premier wilderness tripping canoes available during the canoe design heyday of the 80's and 90's. The design is renowned for it's extraordinary river performance and maneuverability while loaded with gear. When Dagger ceased canoe production to focus on their kayak line in 1993, Mad River Canoe ultimately purchased the design rights and mold from Dagger and continued to manufacture the canoe with no hull modifications under the Mad River brand name through the mid-2000's.

This 1991 model is in extraordinary condition, having been used only a handful of times in the early 1990's, then garage stored for over 25 years. The ash seats, seat hangers, thwarts and yoke have all been stripped and sanded to bare wood, treated with a light maple stain to highlight the grain, then finished with a a 7 coat process of Epifanes spar varnish, providing a hand-rubbed effect to all the woodwork. The seats feature new woven cane, and all hardware has been replaced with new stainless steel

A symmetrical hull with blunt ends features straight sides with flair at each end The significant depth at the bow and stern, combined with the hull flair and extended decks sheds waves with ease, leading to a very dry ride even in Class II/III whitewater The shallow arch design leads to high secondary stability (resistance to capsize), and the symmetrical shape allows easy solo paddling from the bow seat while facing the stern. Built of Royalex (the premier material for lightweight, durable canoes until the material was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2015), the hull shows minimal wear with only superficial scratches. Kevlar skid plates have been cut for the canoe and are included in the purchase, but are not installed as there isn't enough wear present to require them yet. (Skid plate installation for preventative maintenance is available for an additional fee).

The canoe is priced hundreds below what a comparable canoe would cost new from similar contemporary manufacturers such as Nova Craft, Esquif, Northstar and Wenonah, and delivers performance and significant weight savings far beyond comparably priced mid range canoes from manufacturers such as Old Town today.
