For sale is this rare, original 1915 pictorial photograph by Margaret DeMotte Brown. Brown career includes being a photo educator and an early member of Clarence White’s pictorial movement. Research by L Lee McIntyre notes: “… in 1917 Clarence White and Gertrude Käsebier start the Pictorial Photographers of America group, the successor to the Photo Secessionist group. [The PPA] is the preeminent pictorialist group in the United States in 1917, and Clarence White is president. Gertrude Käsebier is the honorary vice president, and Margaret DeMotte Brown is the corresponding secretary of the group.

The photograph is on its original thick paper mount that has a slight impressed bevel. It’ s signed (Margaret DeMotte Brown) with a date (1915) in pencil on the front just below the photo on the bottom right edge. The image area is about 7.5” x 6”. The original frame is wood and measures about 14.75” x 11.75” which is about the size of the paper mount less the width of the frame. The width of the wood is about .25”. The photo is in excellent condition, the frame shows a bit of wear.
