VINTAGE DALLAS COWBOYS BALL CAP – Circa 1965. This cap was part of the reward for a Dr Pepper (DP) promotion in Dallas in ~1965. Here's the deal: When you bought a DP at 7-11 or a Cabell's, they gave you a small poster-sized chart with the name/number of a Dallas Cowboy team member in a small circle on the chart. On the inside of the DP bottle cap, there was an image of the player and team number. You glued the cap onto the associated circle on the chart. Once the chart was filled, my dad drove me over to the DP plant in Dallas, and they handed me a bag that contained the following: this ball cap, a Cowboys pennant, some free DP tokens, and two tickets to a Cowboys home game at the Cotton Bowl.
The cap has the early Cowboys logo of the football player on horseback, but there is no DP logo.
The ball cap has survived, but is in used VG condition, considering its age. This item has been in long-term storage since the 1960s. Never laundered, very minor age-related soiling of material. The color is still a rich, royal navy blue. The elastic band is intact, though has lost its elasticity with time. The cardboard bill under the fabric is creased on one side. Thanks!
