Located in Smugglers’ Roost, a pioneering community which serves as a hub for exploration, creativity and trade!

Animas, NM is a short 4-hour drive from Albuquerque. Situated at the site of the infamous Clanton Gang’s hideout along Smuggler’s Trail, we are set in one of the most historic and stunningly beautiful regions of the Wild West.

IT’S SPRINGTIME AT THE ROOST! It’s time to make new friends while exploring a different hobby, learning something new, reconnecting with nature or reinvigorating an old creative passion! Come join us for community events, nights under the stars or at a gathering around the fire pit! By day, set-out on an adventure and take advantage of the multitude of outdoor activities available in our area, including hiking, rock climbing, cycling, off-roading, rockhounding, horseback riding and birding. Join us for an arts/craft workshop, some live music, a wood-fired pizza, an engaging presentation by a visiting expert, a barbeque, a cooking contest, movie night and a telescope viewing.

INCREASED VALUE - TODAY’S LOW PRICE! Our improvements to the water, commercial septic and primary electric have greatly upped the value of our sites. Take advantage of this growth in value at the current low pricing before Phase 2 sites are gone!

BEAT INFLATION WITH OUR LOWER COST OF LIVING! Hidalgo County, New Mexico boasts a cost of living that is nearly 27% LESS than the national average! With these lower costs, your money goes a lot further in our area, making it a great place to either vacation or retire.

We’re in the MIDDLE OF EVERYWHERE, surrounded by a wealth of wide-ranging activities and natural amenities which include extraordinary, yet uncrowded state and national recreation areas, caves, mines, ghost towns, museums, historic locations, native sites, observatories, local wineries and micro-breweries. Our website features an interactive map to help you explore all there is to see and do!

JOIN OUR GROWING COMMUNITY! We are still a work in progress and YOUR input into the community is essential! As we had hoped, Smugglers’ Roost has grown into a friendly and active community. There are now more than 65+ full-time residents, all displaying a variety of both interests and talents. Whether you enjoy arts and crafts, or just simple peace and quiet, you will feel right at home at the Roost.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS! Nationally-acclaimed scenic artist, Pam Price of F5 Theming and Design, LLC, is now producing artwork for a growing array of high-profile clients in her 1,600-sf Art Production Facility at the Roost. Pam’s impressive body of work includes serving as Art Director with The Companies of Nassal, to oversee the 300+ artists that brought The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Hogsmeade to life at Universal Studios Orlando. Although her new projects are highly confidential, her initial staffing of artists is being drawn from Roost residents. We anticipate continued growth of the arts and craft industry on-site in order to build a lucrative economic model for the future.

WE CONTINUE TO ADD AMENITIES! Sit by the soothing sounds of the waterfall at our new Koi Pond as birds gather to feed and bathe. We’re now wood-firing pizza in the new Horno (adobe-brick pizza oven). We’ll also be firing pottery soon in new Raku Pottery Ground Kilns! If you’ve always wanted to try sculpting pottery – now’s your chance! The new Community “Pod “now serves as a meeting venue, center for trade and gallery for artistic display! Come create your own culinary delights in the Outdoor Community Kitchen complete with sinks, food prep area, grills, antique wood-fired stove, smokers and gas pizza cookers or grab something from the new Food Truck which will be open soon!
The Pavilion serves as our live music venue, outdoor movie theatre and area for community gatherings, which we hold frequently. Our Gems and Minerals Workshop has several workbenches for processing the wealth of gems and minerals found in the area, including turquoise from our turquoise mine in nearby Old Hachita! Grow your own veggies year-round in our Horticulture Tents.

VIEW THE UNIVERSE LIKE NEVER BEFORE through our 12” telescope under some of the darkest skies in the country! We also have a solar telescope for daytime viewing of the sun with our own on-site astronomer.

WE ROAST OUR OWN COFFEE! Come and enjoy a cup of fresh-roasted Smugglers' Roast coffee and a homemade biscuit with local honey from our antique Great Majestic oven while watching some feathered friends visit the Koi Pond surrounded by mountain views!
WORK REMOTELY using our RELIABLE WI-FI now via FIBER OPTIC!

BRING YOUR HORSE! We are planning to add adjacent horse facilities and more. We are surrounded by 100’s of MILES of trails! Come ride the outlaw trails traveled by such infamous characters of the Wild West as Wyatt Earp, The Clantons, Johnny Ringo, “Curly Bill” Brocias, Billy the Kid and countless others as they rode through our area en route to the town of Tombstone.
