Role Summary
The Garden Center Representative assists in daily operations of the garden department—delivering standout customer service, maintaining healthy plants, and assisting Garden Center Lead in organizing the garden center.
What You’ll Do
Customer Experience
• Greet and consult customers; provide accurate plant, soil, fertilizer, pest/disease, and irrigation recommendations.
• Assist Customer Service Representatives regarding plant and garden questions.
Live Goods Care
• Execute daily watering plans, pruning, deadheading, staking, spacing, and rotation.
• Monitor for pests/diseases; implement IPM steps and escalate per policy/licensing.
• Maintain accurate signage (names, zones, light/water needs, pricing).
Merchandising & Presentation
• Assist Garden Center Lead in setting displays and promo features; keep aisles safe, clean, and shoppable.
• Assist Garden Center Lead in executing cross-merch plans (e.g., potting mix + containers + annuals).
Inventory & Receiving
• Assist in receiving, checking-in and tagging plant shipments.
• Report plant damages to Garden Center Lead.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow PPE and safe tool use (ladders, cutters, pruners, pallet jack/forklift if certified).
• Keep chemical/fertilizer area compliant with labeling and local rules.
• Complete incident reports and daily inspection checklists.
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications
• High School diploma or general education diploma (GED)
• 2+ years gardening experience
• Solid working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs/trees, USDA zones, soils, amendments, fertilizers, irrigation, and basic IPM.
• Comfortable using POS, inventory systems, and mobile devices.
• Strong communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
• Horticulture coursework/certificate
Physical & Work Environment
• Work primarily outdoors in variable weather (heat, cold, rain, pollen).
• Frequently lift/move up to 40–50 lbs; stand/walk for extended periods; bend, reach, and climb short ladders.
• Use hoses, sprayers, pruners, carts, and pallet jacks (forklift if certified).
• Availability: Early mornings, weekends, holidays, and peak spring seasons; occasional extended hours during truck days and events.
Compensation & Benefits
• Pay: Dependent on experience.
